The Smallest Refridgerator In The World: Just The Thing To Keep Your Nano-Beers Cold

In great news for people who don’t have a great deal of space to dedicate to an extra fridge to keep your beers chilled, theoretical physicists Chris van den Broeck and Ryoichi Kawai believe that they have invented the worlds smallest fridge.

The Smallest Refridgerator In The Worl

Smallest Fridge Needs A Tiny Beer!

Unfortunately, this nanoscopic fridge is no good for anybody who wishes to keep anything much larger than a few molecules warm. The premise behind the refrigerator relies on brownian motion, the effect which describes the way in which smoke moves, using a tiny paddle to cool a set of molecules by drawing their heat into a different place.
Until our beer is delivered on a molecular level, and provided to us via nano machines, we will need to work with traditionally sized fridges to chill our beer. As more and more of us are choosing to buy our beer from supermarkets and off licences rather than in the pub, the use of beer and drink fridges to keep beverages nice and chilled is set to rise in a similar way. According to The Independent, it is down to the twin reasons of people feeling more comfortable at home rather than going out, and the fact that going to the pub is far more expensive than buying your alcohol elsewhere is causing people to shun the old drinking patterns.

What to look for in a drinks fridge

As with any fridge, finding an appliance which has a high energy efficiency level is important. Given the fact that fridges are usually switched on all of the time, the more efficient it is, the less money it will take to run, which is somewhat more important than in other, more occasionally used, appliances. Similarly, the size of the drinks fridge is important. Too small, and you are unlikely to be able to fit a lot more than a couple of cans inside your new fridge, while if it is too large, the chances of it fitting into the intended space are reduced. Striking a happy medium, and getting a fridge which both fits in the intended space while having room for as many drinks as you would like on the inside.

To look at the various options available to you when choosing the drinks fridge that will suit your needs, look at websites such as Fridge Freezer Direct to help inform your choice as they specialise in commercial refrigeration and have an array of choice.

The weight of your miniature drinks fridge is somewhat more important than that of your main food appliance, thanks to the fact that you are more likely to move a beer fridge around the house depending on the occasion which you are hosting. A boys’ night in located in the basement to watch the match would benefit from the fridge being placed there for the night, while a barbecue would benefit from your drinks fridge being as close to the garden as possible to limit the distance people have to travel to get refreshments.

Six Healthy Fast Food Meals

Fast food is bad food, right? Not necessarily. There’s nearly always a healthy option that’s just as delicious as the calorie-laden options on the menu.
Knowing what to go for can make the difference between a guilty blow-out and an enjoyable, quick refuelling. There is no reason to have one of those moments where you think “my diet can wait until tomorrow”. If you’re a bit savvy with what you order then getting a takeaway can be just another part of your nutrition. Losing weight is a process and not an event – keep an eye to your personal goals at all times, and then order wisely! Here’s six options for you to consider:

1. The kebab shop.

The doner kebab is something of a staple for the drinking person after a good night out. But the recipe for lamb doner uses fifty percent lamb fat – before you even include the fat in the “lean” meat! It’s definitely one to avoid. But most of the pleasure comes from a good coating of chilli sauce, so why not do the smart thing and go for the chicken shish kebab. It’s always made from lean chicken breast, and when pepped up with the house chilli sauce it makes a mouthwatering and amazingly healthy meal. I have at least one a week from my favourite kebab house.

2. The Indian Restaurant

Most Indian dishes – that is to say the ones that come with a sauce, are made from a standard curry base sauce that is made on site by each restaurant. The recipe varies from restaurant to restaurant, but the cooking method invariably involves frying part-cooked meat and vegetables along with a dollop of this sauce in large amounts of vegetable oil, or even clarified butter. This is why if you get a Christmas card from your local takeaway the chances are you have a spare tyre around your waist!
The solution is to go for a tandoor-cooked meal. My personal favourite is the tandoori mixed grill, a lean and spicy meal that’s wonderfully filling without the bloat factor that comes from the oily rice. My trick is to pour over it the accompanying mint yoghurt, which combines with the spices to make a low fat and delicious sauce. When working away from home this is my evening meal pretty much every night!

3. The fish and chip shop

I absolutely love fish and chips. Best eaten sitting in the car on a rainy day at the seaside. It’s easy to have an eyes-bigger-than-tummy moment when ordering but most fish and chip shops give an over-generous portion. Instead of getting the largest portion you can, just get a small one. You’ll still be full afterwards. If you can avoid the fish, go for roast chicken. Even though it will be cooked in the fryer, less fat will be absorbed and you will end up taking on fewer calories.
4. The Mexican

If it’s served sizzling on a platter, that’s good. Less good is anything in a sauce. Pep up chicken fajitas with some spicy salsa and you have a delicious and nutritious meal.

5. The Chinese Restaurant

Being a big fan of Chinese takeaway food, a few years ago I took a course in Chinese Cooking – Takeaway Style. It was delicious, but served as a bit of a wake-up call when I saw how the food was prepared. Some of my favourite dishes were fried three times. This is something to avoid if you can. Choose the boiled rice over the egg fried, and go for anything that has been steamed rather than deep fried. And here’s another tip if you’re eating at home – don’t put it all out on the plate at once. Just put half out and save the rest for breakfast. It makes a wonderful start to the day. The breakfast of champions!

6. The Burger Joint

These places can be a diet graveyard. Do you know how many calories are in a Big Mac with bacon and cheese? Me neither. But if you eat one of these bad boys with a supersize portion of fries that’s most of your days calories in one sitting. If you’re serious about losing weight, and you find yourself in a burger bar looking at the menu, then remember what you are trying to achieve, reflect upon what you have achieved so far, and then go for whatever chicken-in-a-bun type option they offer. And if you simply have to get the fries, go for a small portion and eat them two at a time rather than in handfuls. Take it from me, it can be done.

Remember – you can be slim. It takes a little time but the rewards come quickly. It’s not a smooth process and you will have your ups and downs. It’s important not to get thrown off the track just because you hit a little bump. Smart ordering the next time you are in a fast food shop will help you to stay the course.

Breakfast Ideas for Obese Children

This meal is of the utmost importance in controlling weight and also, ironically, the one meal that kids often skip. While it is never a good idea to force kids to eat when they are not hungry, breakfast must be eaten, and this is something your children will need to accept. Most children will, once they begin a healthy eating programme, develop a more regular appetite, and be more refreshed and alert in the morning. So breakfast will eventually become more appealing – in fact, most kids will be ravenous for good nutritious fare.

Try to include a good source of protein – eggs, peanut butter, yogurt, milk, grilled lean bacon, or even cheese occasionally – in your child’s breakfast. It will help to keep blood sugar levels stable throughout the morning, and aid concentration. Children who eat a good healthy breakfast are far less likely to overeat throughout the day. Always add one or more servings of fruit as well – it gives them the nutrients they need to start the day well, plus it provides them with a healthy burst of energy to get them through the morning. Many kids will pick at fruit even if they are not natural breakfasters, so take this opportunity to squeeze in a couple of servings.

– Healthy breakfast cereals are a great source of fibre, which aids digestion, is filling and encourages a sustained release of energy throughout the day. Porridge is a particularly good choice
– Make a breakfast buffet, with oatmeal, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and dried fruits – such as apricots, raisins and cranberries-in small dishes. Each child can then create their own mixture
– Wholegrain cereal or muesli, sprinkled with seasonal berries or another fruit, with milk (try soya or rice milk occasionally to add variety) on top, along with a glass of juice – if the cereal needs to be sweetened, drizzle it with honey
– Wholemeal toast with peanut butter, a banana and a glass of juice
– Poached or boiled egg with wholemeal toast and a glass of juice
– Grilled lean bacon, a boiled egg, some berries or orange sections, a piece of wholemeal toast or muffin and some juice
– Plain yogurt (try soya yogurt as an alternative) with fruit (anything goes) and organic honey, a piece of wholemeal toast and a glass of juice
– A grilled lean bacon sandwich with tomatoes or cucumber on wholemeal toast, with a glass of juice
– Veggie sausage in a wholemeal bun, with fruit juice and an orange
– Fresh mango with yogurt, a handful of seeds or nuts, and a piece of wholemeal toast with butter or nut butter
– Wholemeal toast with pure fruit, low-sugar jam or preserve; yogurt (or a yogurt drink) and a glass of milk or juice
– Rice cakes with hummus, apple slices and juice
– A smoothie – fresh or tinned fruit, plain yogurt and honey whizzed together with a banana, or some ice cubes
– Grilled tomatoes, grilled mushrooms and grilled lean bacon with a slice of wholemeal toast and a glass of juice
– Or why not consider ‘non-breakfast’ foods, such as a tuna fish sandwich on wholemeal bread with a glass of juice? Or a leftover slice of ‘healthy’ pizza?
– If you are at a loss as to how to incorporate a few servings of fruit or vegetables, it’s not hard. Some grapes on the side, or some orange, banana or apple sections are an easy choice. A pot of fruit in fruit juice, a few strawberries or other berries on cereal or yogurt, or whizzed into a smoothie, are other good ideas. Slices of cucumber, tomatoes or even pepper with bacon and eggs works well, too. A glass of pure fruit juice is also a whole serving of fruit, and you can normally encourage most children to drink a glass with breakfast. If you have a juicer, encourage your children to choose three or four fruits (kiwi, apple, mango, banana, pineapple, melon, for example) and add one vegetable, such as carrot, celery or cucumber, to add vital nutrients. A good simple combination for those new to juicing is apple and carrot – it’s sweet, delicious and cheap.

Try to ensure that your child doesn’t eat exactly the same breakfast every day – variety helps to ensure that he is getting the nutrients he needs, and also prevents further food fads from developing.

Protein, Energy, and Meal Replacement Bars – The Good, The Bad, and The Useless

Balance, Zone, Cliff, Pure Protein, and other nutrition bars can be extremely useful tools to help fight hunger, provide a healthy, quick snack, and maintain a continuous flow of protein and sugar into the body.  However, they are not all created with the same user in mind and it is important to understand where each kind of bar best fits into your nutrition plan.  By reading the Nutrition Facts information as well as the ingredients statement, you can learn a lot about what a bar can do for you.

Generally, nutrition bars will range between 150 and 400 calories per serving, which for the majority of people makes them most useful as snacks.  They do not usually provide enough energy to constitute a full meal.  In addition, they are almost always lacking in at least one key component of a well-structured meal, including fiber, healthy fats, or phytochemicals like antioxidants.  However, when used as a snack, either alone or with other healthy foods, nutrition bars can strike a wonderful balance between convenience and nutrition.

There are three main categories into which I divide nutrition bars: protein-based, carbohydrate-based, and those that supply a balance of macronutrients (fat, carbohydrate, and protein).  Each type of bar can be a powerful tool in the right circumstances, but when misused can be counterproductive to your success.  Protein-based bars are designed with maximum protein content in mind.  Pure Protein and Met-Rx Protein Plus bars are examples of this category.  Pure Protein bars provide approximately 34% of their calories by way of protein and Protein Plus bars supply approximately 41% of their calories as protein.  Besides their macronutrient profile, another perspective on the bar’s design can be had by observing the ingredients statement.  Pure Protein bars utilize artificial sweeteners and sugar in order to keep their overall caloric content down and boost their relative protein content.  Bars in the other categories will generally avoid such ingredients (although there’s nothing inherently wrong with them) and will therefore have a more carbohydrate-heavy profile.

A protein-based bar can be an excellent supply of high quality protein when you are away from home or otherwise without access to meat, soy, or dairy-based protein sources.  They can often serve as the major source of protein in a snack that might also include whole grain cereal products or fresh fruits and vegetables.  Be aware, however, that many high-protein bars also contain large amounts of saturated fat.  Due to the negative health consequences of chronic high saturated fat consumption, always use protein-based bars in moderation and only when you are without healthier protein sources.

Another type of nutrition bar is the carbohydrate-based product.  Cliff Bars, Bear Naked Grain-ola Bars, and the ever-popular PowerBar Performance Energy Bar are members of this group.  They supply between 7% and 17% of their calories from protein.  Clearly, these products were not designed to provide a maximum amount of protein.  Instead, they are generally engineered with fiber to slow digestion and low glycemic carbohydrates to give the user a steady supply of sugar over an extended exercise session.  The benefits of these bars are varied but can include natural ingredients, whole-grains, and a lower saturated fat content than the other types of bars.
Carbohydrate-based bars can be used as part of a pre-workout meal to supply healthy, fiber-buffered carbohydrates to fuel your training session.  They can also be used in concert with a concentrated source of protein as part of a post-workout meal.  However, they do not often make good starting points for snacks during a normal day at work or home due to their often high sugar content.

The last type of bar is the meal replacement product.  These bars usually provide a balance of macronutrients and can be useful in many situations.  Balance Bars, Zone Bars, and Met-Rx Big 100 Bars fall into this group.  Balance and Zone Bars provide about 210 calories and approximately 28% of their calories from protein.  Big 100 Bars contain 410 calories and supply approximately 31% of its calories from protein.  Despite their similar protein contents, the 200 calorie difference between the bars is substantial.  This category of products tends to have the largest variation in total caloric content, so always pay attention to the Nutrition Facts label to see how you can best make these bars work for you.

Meal replacement bars or those with balanced macronutrient profiles are best used as part of a snack during every-day life.  If you do not need as much protein as protein-based bar would supply or if you have a good protein source and are looking for a convenient, balanced source of macronutrients to complete a snack, the meal replacement bar may be a good choice.  Unfortunately, this sort of bar often contains levels of saturated fat similar to the protein-based bar type.  As always, pay attention to the Nutrition Facts and ingredients statement labels to find the right bar for your nutrition plan.

All three types of nutrition bars can play a beneficial role in your life.  They are convenient, portable sources of concentrated nutrition.  When used properly, they can supply just the right nutrients at the right time.  However, each kind of bar has its drawbacks, so don’t rely on them regularly as replacements for healthy conventional foods.  Always read the rear label carefully, paying special attention to caloric content and macronutrient ratios, to make the right choice when selecting a nutrition bar.

Breakfast, Lunch, Supper and Snacking- Practical Health foods

Everyone who is trying to follow a healthy eating lifestyle understands the need to buy quality, healthy and practical foods.  Practical foods are those foods that are not only healthy but whose benefits extend beyond their mere nutritional value.  Such foods are easy to use, and useful in a number of different recipes.  Healthy, practical foods, when used on a regular basis, form a great part of a healthy diet, and may even lower the risk of heart disease, cancer and other common illnesses.

One great practical food is the humble tomato.  It may not look much like an orange, but the tomato is actually a citrus fruit as well.  As such, tomatoes are rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants.  In addition, tomatoes are a rich source of lycopene, which has shown promise in preventing certain kinds of cancer.

In addition, tomatoes are easy to use, versatile, and inexpensive.  In addition to fresh, in season tomatoes, which are delicious as well as nutritious, tomatoes are available in canned and frozen varieties as well.  Tomatoes can be used in so many different ways, and in so many different recipes, that it is always a good idea to have a supply of them on hand in the pantry or the fridge.

Pastas, especially the whole wheat varieties of pastas, are another great example of functional foods.  Pastas can also be used in a variety of ways, from simple preparations with simple tomato based sauces, to elaborate creations using shrimp, tuna and other seafood.

Of course, pasta dishes can be healthy or unhealthy, depending on how they are topped.  Toppings such as Alfredo sauce or rich cream sauces, should be avoided when trying to follow a healthy diet.  As with all foods, such heavy sauces are fine in moderation, but they should not form the bulk of your diet.

Luckily, there are lower fat alternatives to many high fat pasta sauces, and these low fat alternatives should be used whenever possible.  Substituting lower fat alternatives for fatty, unhealthy foods is an important skill when it comes to creating a healthy diet.

Whole grain breads, flours and grains are also good examples of healthy, practical foods.  Stocking up on these staples when they are on sale will help ensure that you have everything you need to create the most healthy recipes possible for yourself and your family.

Whole grain products should be substituted for more highly refined breads and cereals whenever possible, since whole grain breads, cereals and grains retain more of their important nutrients than do more highly refined foods.

Starting a healthy eating program using practical foods is easy.  Start by taking a personal inventory of your current diet, including where it is good and where it can use some improvement.  Learn to assess the personal health risks created by your current diet (your family physician can be of particular help here).  A physician or dietitian can be a big help in putting together a list of healthy, easy to use, practical foods you can use to change your diet for the better.

It is also a good idea to use your interest in healthy eating to create and use exciting new recipes.  There are a great many healthy eating recipes available, both on the internet and in cookbooks.  Seek out some of these recipes and try using your favorite healthy staples to create some wonderful dishes.

For some ideas on how to use practical foods morning, noon and night, try some of these great ideas:

  • Include some healthy staples, and some healthy fruits in your breakfast.  For instance, pair healthy oatmeal with blueberries, or whole wheat or wheat bran cereal with strawberries or bananas.
  • Try mixing a healthy cereal like All Bran into your nonfat or low fat yogurt.  It will perk up your plain yogurt and give it a great crunch.
  • Fresh fruit is also a great addition to yogurt.  Try buying plain, nonfat yogurt and mixing in your own raspberries, blueberries and strawberries.  You will save money and enjoy a healthy breakfast.

Beef Jerky: Healthy Snacks You Can Make at Home

Most people don’t think of beef jerky when they are trying to come up with a healthy, filling, low calorie snack. Beef jerky is also high in protein and low in fat. Best of all, you can make your own in 5 simple steps.

STEP 1: Select Meat Choosing a lean cut of beef is best for ease of preparation and flavor. You can’t go wrong with sirloin, top round or eye round. But don’t forget! Although jerky is traditionally made using beef– turkey, chicken, deer and fish make a delicious jerky snack you won’t want to pass up!

STEP 2: Slice Meat Cut the meat into slices approximately 1/8” thick, trimming off all of the fat as you go. You can cut with or against the grain of the meat…some say cutting strips against the grain make a jerky that easier to chew. And here’s a trick of the trade! Freeze the meat for 20-30 minutes before slicing to make this step a breeze!

STEP 3: Marinate Meat This is my favorite step…get creative! Place the meat in a container and coat it with whatever you want! Try a mixture of soy sauce, brown sugar, fresh ground pepper and water for a sweet jerky or kick it up a little with your favorite bottle of spicy marinade, some cayenne pepper flakes and a good 20 shakes of Louisiana Hot Sauce! Place in the refrigerator for 4 to 12 hours to allow the meat to absorb the flavor. Check out for some great flavor ideas.
Step 4: Dehydrate Meat Preheat your oven to 150 degrees. Place strips of meat on a wire rack over a foil-lined cookie sheet and place in the oven. Keep the oven door cracked a bit while drying to let out any extra moisture. If you are making your jerky in a dehydrator, place meat evenly on racks, making sure the strips are not touching. Now remember…this step takes time. The perfect jerky can take anywhere from 6 to 12 hours to complete…but trust me–it’s worth the wait!! Begin to check the jerky frequently after 6 to 7 hours. Your jerky will be done when it appears firm and dry. It should bend so it cracks a bit, but should not snap in half.

STEP 5: Store Meat If you are anything like me and will eat up your jerky in a matter of days, you can store it in a sealed container or Ziploc baggie at room temperature. Also, placing jerky in plastic bags and storing it in your refrigerator or freezer will ensure freshness for several months!

STEP 6: ENJOY!! I know, I know! I said “Five Easy Steps” and I actually have six! But this one doesn’t require any work at all! Enjoy your jerky…whatever kind you make! And don’t forget that it’s healthy! High in protein and low in fat. So whether it’s a for an afternoon snack, a munchie to pack with the camping gear or an ‘extra’ in the kids’ lunchbox…after you make your own jerky, all you have to do is enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!

CHEMISTRY IN KITCHEN Chemistry in gastronomy is the trendy new chapter of ever progressing culinary genre and the scientific study of deliciousness

Chemistry in gastronomy is the trendy new chapter of ever progressing culinary genre and the scientific study of deliciousness.

Where the science of food is not new and liquid nitrogen, pectin, spherification, syringes are now well placed term of post modern cooking and chef s laboratory. The arena of kitchen in which duo of culinary enthusiasts and scientists came together to define the art and science of modern eating. Ultimately the applications of science and vein of culinary art running squarely across.

The transformation of technique and application is the key to the progressing journey of food. While the tastes and flavours remain familiar, it is the form, the presentation, and the manner of preparation and consumption that are unique. Despite the ultra-modern equipment and strangely presented food, the goal is not to completely alter the concept of cooking, but rather to find a new way of expanding on a foundation that has been building for centuries. The concept  was perhaps presaged by Marie-Antoine Crème one of the most famous French chefs, who said in the early 19th century that when making a food stock “the broth must come to a boil very slowly, otherwise the albumin coagulates, hardens; the water, not having time to penetrate the meat, prevents the gelatinous part of the osmazome from detaching itself.”

The term “molecular gastronomy” was coined in 1992 by Hungarian physicist Nicholas kurti and French physical chemist Hervé The It became the title for a set of workshops held in Erice, Italy (originally titled “Science and gastronomy”)that brought together scientists and professional cooks for discussions on the science behind traditional cooking preparations. Eventually, the shortened term Molecular gastronomy also became the name of the scientific discipline co-created by Kurti and Harve. This to be based on exploring the science behind traditional cooking methods. . His hobby was cooking, and he was an enthusiastic advocate of applying scientific knowledge to culinary problems the idea of using chemistry to study food is not a new one, for instance the discipline of food science has existed for many years. Kurti and this acknowledged this fact and though they decided that a new, organized and specific discipline should be created within food science that investigated the processes in regular cooking

The term molecular gastronomy conjures images of laboratory derived experiments more than a dining experience, but in most cases it’s actually both. Many practitioners do create in laboratories, which are simply modern kitchens outfitted with new high-tech equipment. Now kitchen is just like a science laboratory and cooking is just another experimental science.

The intent of molecular gastronomy is consistent with the chapters of the culinary movement that have preceded it–innovation, amusement, inspiration, and ultimately pleasure for instance imagine an orb shaped dish brimming with fluorescent orange foam is placed in front of you. As you place the spoon on your tongue, the foam vanishes leaving behind nothing more than the essence of fresh, sweet carrots lingering in the back of your throat it elicits at once the comfort of familiarity and the shock of the completely unexpected.

As the meal progresses, the facial expressions alone seemingly capture the essence of the entire philosophy. With each bite expressions shifts from fear to curiosity to confusion and ultimately morphs into to a huge smile that at once exudes the whimsy of childlike wonderment and the realization that the concept does make sense. You cannot help but smile along with ….

There has been a recent face of molecular gastronomy in the culinary world, and it has definitely intrigued the food endeavours is to deconstruct dishes to their simplest forms and reconstruct them in tasteful and artistic ways, combining science, food and art.
Learn to deconstruct a dish. Understand the different components of a dish and how they work together. Without knowing the basics, how can you rebuild it to your own interpretation? For instant Strawberries and Cream – Deconstructed, The idea of this dish is to transform how you taste strawberries and cream.  With the traditional dish, you taste strawberries then the cream.  Using spherification, you taste the cream first and then the strawberry caviar burst, reversing the order in which we are used to as well as the over all texture of the dish. Chefs today are magically transforming liquid oils into powder, sometimes even replicating the flavours complexity of a whole course. The “secret” ingredient is tapioca malt dextrin. In the avant –garde restaurant kitchen, highly flavoured oil is blended with tapioca malt dextrin to transform the oil from liquid to powder. “Powder oil,” having a high affinity for water, pleasantly coats them out while   releasing the flavours of the oil. Some chefs have used this ingredient to turn peanut butter into a granular powder that reconstitutes in the mouth. Lecithin is a staple ingredient used to emulsify sauces like mayonnaise and vinaigrettes. Spherification helps to create an oval sushi product with a core of “pearls” surrounded by traditional rice and an avocado wrap. The pearls are made from a solution containing flavours, colours, and about 1% sodium alginate. Droplets of this solution are added to a 1% calcium chloride solution to form the pearls.

Good Nutrition: Your Weapon Against Tiredness

Everyday, millions of people all around the globe complain of being tired. If you lead a busy, unhealthy and stressful life, it’s not surprising that you feel tired and weak oftentimes. This is because your lifestyle and everyday habits are the true causes of your tiredness and fatigue. How you sleep, what you do, how you cope emotionally and how and what you eat describe your health and fitness status.

There are ways to change and correct the habits that tend to sap all of your energy and leave you feeling tired. One, and probably the most important way is getting good nutrition. Proper diet is essential in battling tiredness. Eating the right foods in the right amount and at the right time helps build up the energy that we need to function well.

You can stop being tired and start becoming energized. Here are some fatigue-fighting nutrition strategies that you can follow:

Have breakfast – They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. While some contradict this belief and say that it’s not true, the truth is that we need food to have energy. Studies show that people who eat breakfast feel better physically and mentally. They are perkier and less stressed. So for you to have more energy to face the day, you better eat something nutritious for breakfast. A bowl of cereal and some fruits will do you good.

Eat smaller meals – Having 3 healthy mini-meals and 2 snacks or eating every 3 to 4 hours can keep your energy levels up all day long. A healthy small meal consists of carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats. One good meal idea is baked sweet potato, beef tenderloin and asparagus. It’s okay to snack on nuts, low-fat yogurt and berries and whole grain crackers. Eating foods that are rich in fiber is also good for you. You can try an air-popped popcorn or black beans and cheese in multigrain tortilla.

Say hello to omega-3s – These essential fatty acids help keep our brain active and healthy. So it’s best if you include salmon or tuna and walnuts in your meals.

Keep yourself hydrated – Drinking plenty of water is important to keep the energy-fueling nutrients flowing throughout your body and for better blood circulation. Aside from drinking 6 to 8 (or more) glasses of water a day, you can also eat foods that naturally contain water, like carrots, watermelon and oranges.

To create a healthy powerhouse sandwich, use your imagination, by including herbs such as fresh basil leaves, cilantro or fresh parsley. Fresh watercress gives a sandwich a great nippy taste; in addition it gives an appealing look and has virtually no calories. Did you know that watercress is a good source of beta carotene, calcium, iron and potassium?

Fresh chives, which contain sulphur oil (which may lower blood pressure if one consistently eats a large amount), fresh romaine lettuce, is low in calories and high in fiber. Try to choose the dark green leafy lettuce; spinach which is full of vitamin A and folate, and high in Vitamin C and potassium, is an excellent choice for sandwiches as it is also a vegetarian source of protein.

When creating your sandwiches, try using sliced whole rings of green, red, or yellow peppers, as they are not only colourful, but an excellent low calorie source of Vitamin C.

Try using sandwich style sliced dill pickles (patted dry)or cucumbers sliced. Crisp fresh snow peas, are low in calories and high in Vitamins A and C. Snow peas, besides containing protein, help to create a nutritionally complete meal when combined with whole grain products.

Sliced beef steak tomatoes make a great addition to any sandwich. Try using asparagus or green capers on top of your filler. We have only the a few “green” and some red vegetable and herb ideas to season your sandwiches.

Fillings for healthy sandwiches are where we need to use care in calorie use. Always use a light Miracle Whip, light cream cheese or Dijon mustard. Light Miracle Whip and cream cheese taste just as good as the regular products and are one half or less than the calories and fat.

The most favorite fillings for sandwiches are hard boiled eggs, tuna, shrimp, roast beef, thinly sliced ham, smoked salmon in thin slices with cream cheese and capers, various light cheeses, such as Edam, Light Mozzarella, Provolone, Asiago, avocado sliced or in a spread, artichoke tapenade, Black Forest Ham, chicken salad spread, chicken breast slices,
Avocados, which incidentally, are fruits, are high in the “good” fats, meaning mono-saturated, but always remember they are high in calories and fats. These are only a few ideas, but, add the greens previously mentioned and you will have a deluxe healthy sandwich when a good protein is added to your greens.

The last item I will write about is bread, one of the most important items. The healthy breads to look for are logically the ones that contain whole grains, oat, flax, spelt bread, rye bread. These breads contain the “good” carbohydrates that constitute a healthy food choice.

White flour breads have no nutritional value for our bodies. Please try to introduce these good choice breads to your children at any early age, so they will become accustomed to eating healthy bread for healthy living.

Creating healthy appealing powerhouse sandwiches is a learned craft; you will be using all the necessary nutrients of a healthy meal for healthy living. There are a multitude of other types of healthy sandwiches, party sandwiches, rolled sandwiches, pinwheel roll-up sandwiches and even wraps to enjoy creating for you and your family.

You will be surprised at just how creativity bursts out in you when you start making these healthy recipes. These breads taste marvelous, but, it is sometimes a chore to talk children into them. Later on, you can slowly introduce other varieties to him/her.

Fortunately, we now have available to us bagels, crusties, and many breads with 100% whole wheat plus many other nutrients in the breads for healthy living.

If you are making sandwiches with sauces, it is easy to eliminate butter or margarine. Replace it with mustard, low-calorie Mayonnaise, light cream cheese. It will eliminate 100 calories to your sandwich.

•    Tomato Slice appetizers: Those thick slices of tomatoes soaked in marinade and dressed with vinegar or olive oil, according to the taste, make for wonderful appetizers. You can also dress these slices with Italian sauces and make a mix of Italian and Indian flavor.

How healthy is your Breakfast?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. What you feed your body in the morning can be the difference between staying alert and energized throughout the day, or feeling tired and lazy. It also helps you to stay focused at work and concentrate on the job at hand without drifting off to sleep. Those who eat a healthy breakfast not only snack less and have more energy throughout the day, but also tend to be thinner than those eat an unhealthy breakfast. It can literally make a difference to your health and should be taken seriously.

For most Indians, the general belief is that a traditional breakfast is oily, fatty and time-consuming but tasty! The typical eating behavior among Indians is to fill themselves up first thing in the morning and not many can live without a hearty breakfast.

When it comes to the ideal breakfast, the South Indian cuisine with snacks like idli and dosa score highest in the battle of the bulge! A South Indian diet is high in carbohydrates and protein and while a morning breakfast of idli-sambar-chiku and coffee has 9.3 per cent protein content in it, the dosa-chutney-papaya-tea has 6.7 per cent proteins.

Idli is a savoury cake that is prepared by steaming a fermented batter consisting of black lentils and rice. The rice and lentils complement each other: one makes up for the amino acids deficient in the other. The fermentation process breaks down the starches so that they are more readily metabolized by the body and makes it among the most easily digestible of foods. Therefore, it is an ideal food for infants, the elderly and the convalescent. If you are on a diet, the idli is one of your best friends. However, a word of caution: Since idlis are low in calories and tend to sit lightly in the stomach, it is just as possible to binge on idlis as it is to binge on oily foods. In fact, people who watch their calories with other foods do not think too much about how many idlis they are eating. Idlis are usually served with chutney, sambhar and a spicy powder known as milagai podi which is the most preferred condiment for idlis. Idlis are considered to be among the top ten healthiest foods in the world due to the ingredients they are made from.
Dosa is similar to an Indian pancake recipe and is another popular South Indian delicacy. It is made from rice and black lentil and is rich in proteins and carbohydrades. As it does not use wheat, it is good for those with gluten free diet. There are many variations of dosa-recipes such as plain-dosa, rava-dosa, masala-dosa, instant-dosa, onion-dosa etc. It may be paper thin (paper-dosa – dosa-roast or thick (set-dosa) as you like.

A good breakfast ensures that you are active and alert both mentally and physically.

Nourishing Healthy Pregnancy Breakfast Ideas

Your mother was right, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. When you are pregnant it’s much more important, because you’re not only looking to renew your depleted supply of nourishing substances, minerals and vitamins but also the missing nutrients of your baby’s. You might possibly live a hectic lifestyle and go around thinking you will just have a little something to eat later on when you slow down; however, scientific studies demonstrate that expectant women who typically skip breakfast often snack on many of the wrong foods during the day.

Maybe you believe you can skip the added calories simply by not grabbing something quick and may well avoid from gaining extra weight, think again. Since your unborn baby is continually taking and using the nutrients it gets from you, your body calls for you to replenish yourself nutritionally every few hours. To achieve this constantly, you simply will need greater choices to come up with a larger selection of quality pregnancy breakfast ideas.

You can find alternatives to eating a fast unhealthy breakfast every day through your pregnancy. By simply surrounding your environment with much healthier food choices it can be easier to make an ideal choice of what to eat very first thing every morning. Hopefully now that you know you are pregnant you are on the right track down a healthy road of pregnancy, and also have already stopped drinking anything that has any level of caffeine and it. For amorning pregnancy breakfast beverage think water, or orange juice or a nice and herbal tea.

Creating a pregnancy breakfast plan does not need to be complex. Start everyday with a whole wheat English muffin with a cooked egg, and add a slice of tomato if you’d like. Or maybe with yourself up and egg omelet with some spinach which will give you a healthy dose of calcium, zinc, magnesium, folic acid, protein and iron that will give you less than 40 calories in every egg you put in your omelet.
There will be days when you absolutely have got to give yourself a break and consider making (yourself) whole wheat grains pancakes or waffles with a small drizzle of syrup (preferably organic, natural maple syrup) with fruit like strawberries, blueberries or peaches (fresh fruit is far superior nutritionally than frozen or canned, a wise choice while you are pregnant).

But it’s true these meals take time, and maybe time is not something you’ve first thing in the morning. Just make sure you always have some fresh melons (honeydew or cantaloupe), strawberries, blueberries, Papaya, or bananas close at hand all the time. The nutrients you can get from any of these fruits will help you and your unborn baby sustain optimal health.

When contemplating what to consume on your pregnancy meal each morning it is every bit as imperative that you make good quality decisions when you eat lunch or dinner. Developing healthy pregnancy supper ideas and pregnancy snack recipes can be an additional way to guarantee that you’re supporting your unborn baby to develop to its potential. When creating a wholesome good-for-pregnancy meal each night for yourself, think about making a sufficient quantity of for the following morning’s breakfast. It may seem odd to eat a nice lean chicken pasta dinner or lasagna at breakfast, but because you made it with your baby in mind, you will recognize it will be a nutritious selection to eat for breakfast.

Culinary Academy’s Sugar Craft a Dying Art

Sculpture is something of a ‘dying art, with very few chefs having the skills and the patience necessary for blowing and pulling sugar into elaborate and decorative master pieces. And masterpieces they are , Attractively complimenting patisserie displays, or standing as table centerpieces in the dining room, making a delicious introduction for the feast to follow. Lately, I have been thinking a lot about the heights I want to reach in the Culinary world. I’m finding that the more I work with sugar, the more I want nothing else! But sugar craft seems to be taken less seriously these days, and in many cases completely overlooked. It takes years of dedication and perseverance to  master this art, not to mention “a few burns” along the way. Since childhood, I have had this embedded in my mind that, perfection- in all that I do & make is my forte! And it is this quality of mine, which has helped me to take up this profession which requires a lot of artistic ability& innovativeness. A glimpse of how the sugar is prepared will show the technical artistry involved in sugar work.. good quality sugar in granulated form is boiled with water  and glucose to a caramel. It is at this stage that tartaric acid and food colors are added. The sugar is then cooled a little and with this hot mass of sugar, the artist goes to work molding, pulling and blowing the sugar into the shapes he requires.
A part from this, pastillage & nougatine are also popular sugar works. Pastillage is made using icing sugar, egg white, gelatin & lemon juice, which is pliable enough to be molded & made into beautiful & intricate center pieces. Nougatine is easier to work with as its basic ingredients being sugar & almonds, it can be made & cut into a template & then brought together using royal icing. Royal icing is used to dainty & delicate filigrees which impart a sense of beauty and finesse in every centerpiece.
Unfortunately, it seems the art of pastry is quickly becoming a lost art form. This is because it requires a lot of initial investment in setting up, with equipments which have to be imported from abroad at exorbitant prices. Also, there is a lot of hard work that goes in making a sugar sculpture, by putting in time, money & labor. Being  a pastry freak. I find this to be quite disturbing, & I along with my team are making efforts to bring back this dying art, through the curriculum we impart to students in the Culinary Academy of India, which aims at creating individuals who are creative, inventive & discoverers.

Why Breakfast is the Most Important Meal?

We all know of the importance of food and how necessary it is to have a good and nutritious diet and that consuming the full three meals a day is also vital. But, many people are not able to take in the proper portions for all these meals, perhaps because of work, because there was no time or perhaps one just didn’t feel like eating heavy.

But, that doesn’t mean, that one should just neglect their dietary needs and just eat whatever suits them whenever. There must be at least one meal a day that is taken properly and on time, and sort of has all the necessary nutrients and vitamins needed for the day. Of course, mostly people prefer to eat a heavy breakfast, a light lunch and an even lighter dinner. The dinner is anyways supposed to be the lightest. A light dinner will ensure that the food will be digested before going to bed, as going to bed with a heavy meal is considered bad for health.

There are also some very easy and healthy breakfast recipes that one can pick up from the internet or family members too. They are usually designed to be quick and non time consuming.

But, generally, it is said that the most important meal of the day is the breakfast. Coming from the two words of break and fast, it essentially means that this meal is the breaking of the fast that one takes while sleeping. So, it has extra points for that. So, here are a few points on why breakfast is not to be dismissed:
• Breakfast is Good for Digestion:

The breakfast if eaten properly will help one cleanse of all the unnecessary stuff left in the body. The undigested matter from last night’s meal will pass properly only when a sufficient breakfast has been had. Otherwise it might result in indigestion and other stomach problems.

• Fulfils Energy Needs:

A good breakfast will determine the energy level of a person for the rest of the day. If one does not have a good enough breakfast then one might feel lethargic, sleepy, not have a healthy appetite for the rest of the day. A person must consume an appropriate amount of calories and minerals in a day. If that intake is not met with then it can result in being devoid of energy.

• Can Be Made Tasty:

It is a general misconception, that breakfast if healthy has to be bland and tasteless. But that is not so. One can add Indian tomato sauce, or mayonnaise, or any other condiments to add some flavor to their dish.

Healthy Snacks for active Kids

As a child grows, the nutritional requirements and energy needs of the child increases too. A balanced and nutritious diet and an active lifestyle help in building strong foundations for a healthy adult life.Growing children who are active have a significant increase in nutrient requirements.

If your children are athletes, keeping them well-nourished will help them play better, for longer and stay mentally alert. An active child who is not getting enough total energy may feel tired and struggle to maintain their enjoyment in sports.A well-timed snack can even out spikes in hunger and provide a much-needed energy boost between meals and their play time.

For Your Young and Restless

Snacks can play an important role in managing your child’s hunger and boosting nutrition. Typically, children reach out for high-calorie beverages or readily available junk/fried food when they need something to much on, between meals. What isreally required is something that is convenient to carry, is tasty and yet something that can satisfy mothers as a healthyfood for kids – like almonds!

Research continues to reveal that almonds deserve their age long reputation for being known as the nut of good health. The fact is, the more we learn about almonds, the more we realize that not only are they one of the best snack-food options for all, including children, but also that some of the best snack recipes can be made from flavouring almonds.

For Your Fussy-Eater

Parents are increasingly more conscious now about what their kids are eating rather than whether they are eating at all or not. The reason behind this could be the increase in awareness about the high-calorie and unhealthy options that are readily available and within the reach of kids. People are now realizing that even if they give healthy meals to children, it is the ‘in-between meals’ that need vigilance.Especially for parents worrying about the picky eaters among the children, giving them almonds as a snack can be an assurance that they are getting a good quantity of the necessary nutrients like vitamin E, protein, fiber, riboflavin etc., with these nuts.

Do It to Show It

Almonds are definitely one of nature’s best foods that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways and have the potential to be a holistic snack. Sostart with a handful a day yourself and show your kids how easy and fuss-free they are to carry, eat and enjoy. Just pack a handful of almonds in your child’s tiffin-box or sprinkle some on your child’s breakfast to turn it into a crunchy and healthy breakfast, to ensure they are consuming them in some way.

Easy Snack Ideas

Other simple ways of introducing almonds into your child’s daily eating habits is by adding it to their salads, fruitchaatand othersuch snacks you prepare at home. These nuts can also be added to your list of tiffin recipes as well as the meals you cook at home. Mothers of school going kids would agree that preparing a timetable or set menu for tiffins is the topmost item on their checklist. You can pick and choose from diverse recipes  here to create a healthy diet universe for your child.

Almonds have always been known to be good for health and have been a part of our heritage for centuries. However, numerous studies have validated the fact that these nuts have extremely beneficial properties. In addition to managing diabetes and weight, almonds also help keep the heart healthy. The vitamin E, magnesium, and antioxidants found within these nuts are associated with improved blood flow and general heart health. The nutrient content of almonds, not only makes it a healthy snack for growing kids but for people of all ages.

Almonds undoubtedly make one of the key ingredients in a healthy diet for kids and could be consumed in various ways to enjoy all its health benefits.

Healthy Snack Recipes

We would like to share with you some delicious and healthy snack recipes. They are easy to make and your whole family will love it.

Vegetarian Baba Ganoush

healthy snacks

This is a Middle Eastern spread and dip is similar to hummus, but is made with eggplant instead of chickpeas (garbanzo beans). This recipe is particularly hummus-like, since it uses some chickpeas for a thicker texture.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 45 minutes

Total Time: 60 minutes

1 large eggplant

1 can chickpeas, drained (garbanzo beans)

3 cloves garlic

1/4 cup lemon juice

3 tbsp tahini

dash sea salt

1/4 cup olive oil

2 tbsp fresh chopped parsley (optional)

Slice eggplant in half, and roast in 400 degree oven for approximately 45 minutes, or until soft. Allow to cool slightly, then scoop out inside of eggplant, leaving skin behind.

In a blender or food processor combine eggplant and remaining ingredients, except oil and parsley, until smooth. Mixture will be somewhat thick. Slowly incorporate olive oil until well mixed. Mix in chopped parsley by hand. Serves eight.

Enjoy with veggies, pita, or as a sandwich spread. I like to spread some baba ghanoush in a flour tortilla and add lettuce, tomatoes and veggies for a sandwich wrap.

Stuffed Celery with Bean Dip

healthy snacks

This recipe for stuffed celery with chick pea and white kidney bean dip is a healthy and spicy snack that is great for parties.

Cut several stalks of celery into 3 inch pieces. Set aside.

Chick Pea and White Kidney Bean Dip

15-oz chick peas (aka Garbonzo beans)

15-oz white kidney beans (aka Cannellini beans)

6-oz can tomato paste

6 oz water

2 teaspoons ground cumin

2 teaspoons chili powder

3-4 gloves garlic

1 teaspoon sweet dried Basil

1/2 teaspoon dried Cilantro leaves

1 Jalapeo pepper or hot sauce to taste

This dip can be made in either a blender or food processor.

Open and drain the cans of chick peas and white kidney beans. Empty into the blender container or food processor. Spoon the tomato paste into the blender container. Fill the can with water and swish around or loosen any remaining tomato paste with a spoon and empty into blender container.

Add all the other ingredients into the blender container, cover and run the blender at high speed until smooth. For stuffing into the celery, you will want the dip fairly thick, but it can be easily thinned with water for a more liquid consistency to use as a dip with fresh vegetables or pita slices.

Spread the dip into the cut celery pieces using a flat serving knife and serve on a platter.

Eating too much sugar in our everyday foods that people may eat in excess like in soda, white bread, and many types of desserts like ice cream and cupcakes, will pack on those unwanted pounds. Sugar is poison. Limit desserts, as much as possible, even for those who have a sweet tooth. There is no harm having them from time to time, but limit them to only once in a while.

How many people today misinterpret buying foods that say sugar free? Never think and focus where it says “sugar free”. Foods where it says “sugar free” actually have more sugar than they make it out to be. You may think you are doing the right thing eating foods that have “0 trans fat” and having drinks like “fruit juices”, are the right way to go, to stay healthy, even when using them during preparation; but that is never the case.

For example, what Is Trans Fat? Trans fat has been shown to raise your bad cholesterol levels, lower your good (HDL) cholesterol levels, cause heart disease, strokes and type 2 diabetes. It will not help your weight go down as you may think.

It has absolutely no positive benefit to the human body in any way, yet it has been proven to harm the body in a variety of ways. Trans fat should pretty much be avoided completely.

Moderation is the word we all need to master and remember. Despite moderation, once you stick with and knowing how to substitute the foods that are healthy for you and your family, you and everyone will still enjoy the taste that you are accustomed to. Your taste buds will not go away. Who wouldn’t like eating proper foods that they can still love when they are prepared and eaten in a healthy manner while eliminating the unnecessary sugar to their diet? For anyone who ever wanted to change their diet and well as eating foods to help shed off those pounds; know the true foods that will help fight that extra weight and start today?

Brian Wright has reviewed Diana Keuilian’s “Family Friendly Fat Burning Meals”. This is highly recommended friendly and beneficial guide to help burn fat correctly while preparing and eating healthy meals you can still enjoy.

How to Make Healthy Breakfast Foods for Diabetics – Oatmeal With Berries and Oatmeal Raisin Pancakes

One of the most important things a diabetic can do for themselves is to start their day off right with a healthy breakfast.  Taking a few minutes in the morning to eat something healthy can be a key to controlling your blood sugar, yet we often grab something we know isn’t quite right for us with the excuse that we are in a hurry.  That type of ‘in a hurry’ can set you up for failure in controlling your blood sugar. Since oats are a very good source of soluble fiber which is very important to the diabetic’s diet, this article offers a couple of recipes that are healthy, fit perfectly into a diabetic’s diet, and they are quick and easy to prepare.  The pancake recipe makes 12 pancakes using a fourth cup of batter for each.  If you are constantly in a morning rush, make up all the batter, have a couple of pancakes (two are considered a serving) and allow the other ten to cool completely.  Once cooled put them in freezer bags, 2 to a bag, and freeze.  They can be microwaved quickly when needed.  This does away with the excuse that you can’t make this recipe because it would be wasteful.  Plus you have 5 more servings of a healthy breakfast on hand.

2. Plain Doughnut with Chocolate Milk

A plain cake-style doughnut is usually a better choice than a bakery muffin. At Dunkin’ Donuts, for instance, an old-fashioned doughnut has 280 calories, while a corn muffin has 510 calories. Add fiber by eating ¼ cup of almonds or dried fruit. Instead of coffee, try 8 ounces of low-fat chocolate milk.

3. Cereal “Sundae”

A bowl of fiber-rich bran flakes (about 1½ cups) with 8 ounces of low-fat milk is nearly the perfect breakfast. Make it portable by replacing the milk with lemon or vanilla yogurt and mixing it in a to-go container. Increase the fiber and vitamins by adding ¼ cup of nuts or fresh or dried fruit, such as chopped pecans or blueberries.

4. Natural yoghurt

Topped with mixed berries, a teaspoon of ground flaxseeds, a slice of whole grain toast; and a cup of green tea

5. Morning Pizza

You could have a slice of last night’s pizza (it’s preferable to filling up on sugar or skipping breakfast). Or you could try a more sophisticated spin: Take a slice of crusty bread, spread it with 3 tablespoons of low-fat ricotta, and add tomatoes. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil (about 1 teaspoon) and a little salt and pepper. Broiling is optional.

6. Strawberry Shake

In a cocktail shaker, combine a packet of vanilla or strawberry instant-breakfast powder (look for the no-sugar-added kind) and 1 cup of low-fat strawberry cow’s milk or soy milk. (You can also mix this the night before.) If you have time, use a blender to add strawberries or a frozen banana, for extra fiber, and a scoop of protein powder.

7. Latte, grapes and nuts

Instead of stopping at the drive thru for an expensive latte, make your own. Warm a cup of low fat milk in the microwave; add to your travel mug fill with espresso or extra strong coffee. Sweeten with flavored sugar free syrups or your favorite sweetener; add a dash of cinnamon if desired.

Place a serving of almonds or other nuts and a serving of grapes in a zip lock bag and sip and munch your way to work.

However that should not be the case because according to research, there are some snacks that act as the fuel that stimulates digestion. Beside this, some healthy snacks keep the fat burning metabolism in a running state.  A healthy snack can either be obtained ready-made or ideas for a quick, and homemade snack can also be applied. The following are examples of healthy snacks.

1.    Greek yogurt with raspberries and honey

This is a combination of protein and healthy fats.  Raspberries contain vitamin C; that increases the rate at which calories are burned in the body and also improves the health of the skin. A serving container of yogurt is mixed with a cup of raspberries and teaspoon of honey to produce this snack.

2.    Chocolate Hazelnut Bark

Polyphenols and flavonoids found in the chocolate are antioxidants that are good for preventing cholesterol damages in the arteries. They also protect the cell walls ensuring the critical cells are not damaged.

3.    Warm Cranberry-Walnut Brie

This is a snack that is prepared considering ideas for a quick homemade snack such as simple recipes. Always chose the baked combination of brie, nuts and cranberry.  It satisfies someone’s need for creamy food. Nuts contain healthy fats that protect the heart from mechanical damage, and cranberries contain antioxidants for cell protection. Below is the recipe for this snack;

•    Brie cheese

•    Dried Cranberries

•    Fresh thyme (well chopped)

•    Walnuts, well chopped and toasted

•    Triscuit

•    Heat the oven to 350 degrees

•    Peel the outer part of the cheese using serrated knife then place it in an oven-proof dish.

•    Sprinkle on top of the cheese, cranberries, thyme, and more nuts.

•    Bake in the oven at the same 350 degrees temperature for about 15 minutes.

•    Serve immediately.

These are just examples of the many available, but it is not enough to just take a healthy snack, strategies that are among the ideas for homemade snack consumption are very essential. These strategies are placed in terms of situations that include;

In this situation, a snack that contains fiber and protein is the most appropriate this is because lasting energy is required. Research shows that those people who practice taking snacks such as cereals and milk one and half hours after meals and decrease calorie intake have lost excess weight than those who ate anything. The fiber in the cereals and proteins keeps one full for a longer time without the urge to eat therefore preventing excess weight gained from eating every time and anyhow. Other snacks that are good for dealing with hunger are slices of bread spread with peanut butter and black bean dip

3.    When you want to have a light workout and after that.

Eating snacks containing carbohydrates before a workout is very healthy. Eat whole-grain to act as an energy source for the coming exercise. After that, eat protein snack like low-fat yogurt especially if the resistance exercises were undertaken.  Growing of muscle cells that are stimulated by workout require much protein. Eating snacks that combine complex carbohydrate and protein also give energy.  Energy in the carbohydrates is readily available. Other snacks that can also help include a slice of cheese with whole grain crackers, nuts, and dried fruits. Apart from these four strategies ideas for a quick homemade healthy snack can also be of great help.

Those who eat snacks between the three meals; breakfast, lunch and supper are in a better position to obtain more nutrients for their bodies. There are various varieties of snacks; kid’s snacks, office snacks, holidays and entertaining snacks and special diet snacks. The well known and famous chefs that are not French, nevertheless, are trained in the art of cooking with the classical French style.

Antoine Careme well known as the “King of Chefs and the Chef of Kings,” and who began as an abandoned child. It was Paris, in the 18th century, where Antoine Careme was left alone at the door step of a restrauteur, and became the father of “haute cuisine” in the 19th century which is the high art of French cooking. French statesman and Diplomat Talleyrand-Perigord, the future King George IV, Czar Alexander I, and James Rothschild a powerful banker, Careme was the Chef to these world leaders and aristocrats. Careme is well known for his famous writings on the art of cooking, included in the writings is the famed “The Art of French Cooking” or L’Art de la Cuisine Francaise. The masterpiece contains five volumes of information and knowledge on the history of French cooking, table settings, menu planning, recipes in the hundreds, and much more.

George Auguste Escoffier, who is also French, in the late 19th and early 20th century modernized Careme’s elaborate style of cuisine by his ingenious simplification of the food. With partner Cesar Ritz, and as a chef George Auguste Escoffier lent his culinary skills and talents to open the Carlton and Ritz hotels, and on the German Passenger Liner (Imperator) , 1913, went on to impress passengers such as Kaiser William II of Germany who was the last German Emperor and King of Prussia. The Peach Melba is a classic dessert, invented in 1892 or 1893 by chef Auguste Escoffier, and Escoffier created this famous treat for Australian singer Nellie Melba. Escoffier is well known for such famous treats as Peach Melba. Escoffier wrote volumes on the art of cooking, but within the commercial kitchens, Escoffier was largely responsible as the mover and shaker in the improvement of the working conditions. Escoffier was a stickler for cleanliness, and Escoffier demanded the same cleanliness from the working staff. Escoffier was also against any type of swearing or violence from his workers and all these types of behaviour was forbidden, and at the time swearing or violence was common in the kitchens among apprentices and older cooking staff.

The grandson of a chef, and a restrauteur’s son, Charles Ranhofer will go down in history as one of great chefs, and the very first French chef to bring the style and grandeur of France’s cuisine to North America. Charles Ranhofer was the head chef, and ran its kitchens at the famous Delmonico’s Restaurant in New York for over 30 years. Charles Ranhofer culinary creatations such as Baked Alaska and Lobster Newburg, plus many others were introduced and served to a host of foreign dignitaries, President Andrew Johnson, President U.S. Grant and Charles Dickens, among others.

One of the most famous and gifted chefs of all time is not French, her name is Julia Child and she is an American, author, and television personality, who introduced French cuisine and cooking techniques to the American mainstream, through her television programs and many cookbooks. Mastering the Art of French Cooking is one of the more famous cookbooks that Julia Child wrote in 1961, and with the series The French Chef, showcasing her sui generis television persona, which started in 1963.

Born in California, and at the age of 34 Julia Child started her cooking career, and a move to France where she had her grand epiphany, a sudden realization that good food is more than mashed potatoes and roast beef. Julia Child enrolled and got a culinary arts education at the esteemed Cordon Bleu cooking school in Paris. Later, with two partners, Julia Child wrote the cookbook “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”, and became the very first “celebrity chef” with more cookbooks, television programs, newspaper columns, and magazine articles. She received the French Legion of Honor in 2000 and the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2003. Julia Child also received honorary doctorates from Harvard University, her alma mater Smith College, and several other universities. Julia Child brought to North America exquisite French cuisine as much with her “have-a-good-time” attitude toward the art of cooking as she did with her cooking skill, talent and expertise.
